[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Blunder Cover has had so much publicity lately that I’d be surprised if you haven’t already heard of it. In a nutshell, it’s a concealer/foundation hybrid that blends like a dream and gives sheer to full coverage, depending on the finish you prefer.

I much prefer a lighter coverage these days but there are occasions where a little more is needed and for someone who never uses concealer, I’m still pleased and impressed with what Blunder Cover can do. I think the trick is to realise that it’s all in a blendable formula – the formula is there, you need to do the blending and as much of it as you can bear to. With my sheer covers, I’m very much in the zone of brush it on, go out. With Blunder Cover, your best results come from taking just a little more time to work with it.

Monika Blunder is a working make up artist (Austrian roots but living in LA) tending to the loveliest faces of big and small screens but with the best contact book in the world, foundation is the hardest product to bring to market. This is infused with arnica (to help with redness reduction), edelweiss (antioxidants), aloe (soothing), sunflower extract (vitamin E), rosemary (antioxidant preservative) and chamomile (anti-inflammatory).

The finish is what I’d describe as a ‘skin finish’ – that it replicates the natural light bounce of your skin rather than deadening it or amplifying it. It’s a more polished look than a ‘natural’ base and you need so little of it, so if you are going for an understated result, use a tiny amount and do your blending with that. You can always add more. The brush, on the face of it, seems too small for a whole face (unless you have time to burn) but is perfect for concealing. I would actually say it is too small (I believe a bigger one is in the offing) to be ideal but it will do the job.

The idea is to use one shade lighter than your skin tone shade (there are 14 shades from lightest to deepest) for concealer but to be honest, because it layers so nicely you can just as easily use the same shade. One of the reasons I don’t use concealer under my eyes is because invariably it makes everything look worse, not better, by going claggy on the skin or emphasising creases and I can say with certainty, Blunder Cover does not. Of the three near matches I was given (impressively accurately picked out by the PRs) the best is 3.5 Drei, complimented with the concealing shade, 2.5 Zwei. The third shade, 4 Vier, would be a good match for when my tone warms. In the swatch above, from bottom to top, it’s 3.5, followed by 4, and finally 2.5. I like this particularly for older skins – there’s no drag on it and I don’t see signs of it seeping into fine lines. The jars contain 17.6 g (17.6 ml) of product compared to, say, Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless which is 30ml, but it’s highly pigmented and a little goes a long way.
