Dave Chappelle discussed his public feud with conservative pundit Candace Owens.

On the latest episode of his Midnight Miracle podcast, Dave Chappelle and co-hosts Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli welcomed Jon Stewart to the show. Bey and Kweli previewed some new Black Star music, while Chappelle spke about his 2020 special 8:46. In the special, Chappelle takes aim at conservative pundit Candace Owens. Bey, Kweli, and special guest Jon Stewart agreed that Dave shouldn’t apologize for his comments about Owens’ take on the death of George Floyd and the case against officer Derek Chauvin.

“There is no possible way that I owe Candace Owens an apology,” he asked. “Is there?”

In the special, Dave calls Owens an “articulate idiot,” saying the pundit wanted to portray George Floyd as a criminal. He added that Owens was “being cruel and dangerous and completely the opposite of any Black woman I’ve ever met in my life.”

Owens deflected Chappelle’s comments, tweeting that Chappelle was “one of the greatest comedians of all time and I made it into one of his specials. That’s power!”

8:46 was YouTube’s top trending video for the year of 2020. The special will be released on 12-inch vinyl records via Third Man Records on October 29th. Proceeds from sales will be donated to Dave’s alma mater, the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. The vinyl’s B-sides will feature an 8-minute-and-46 second moment of silence in honor of George Floyd.

“By the way, Candace Owens,” Chappelle says towards the end of the episode. “I’m sorry I called you ‘articulate.”
