This update of the East of 8th Spotify playlist features plenty of upbeat tracks as we welcome a brighter Spring this year. Even the contemplative songs seem to feel more…optimistic this time around. We’ve also added a legit soul/blues track to the mix which was a pleasant surprise to change things up.

“SOMETHING GOOD” – GABE DIXON
Nashville singer, songwriter, and keyboardist Gabe Dixon gives us the debut track, “Something Good,” from his upcoming solo album, Lay It On Me. Full of optimism, the upbeat piano-led track embraces the hopeful spirit that’s in the air this spring.

“NO GOOD” – KANDLE
JUNO Award-nominated singer/songwriter Kandle gives us a throwback, soulful, bluesy jam with her latest single, “No Good.” The track was recorded just as the lockdowns started last spring and as Kandle shares, “[the song] is forever marked as the anthem to the last day of freedom, where we could eat the mic, share a whiskey sour and warm embrace without fear.”

“GIMME WHAT YOU GOT” – TOM WEST
Australian folk pop rocker Tom West blends ominous guitar chords with musing lyrics on his latest track, “Gimme What You Got.” Released through AntiFragile, the brooding track is reminiscent of offerings from Anthony da Costa but with a rock edge akin to Neil Young’s quieter works.

“DAISIES” – RAYE ROBINSON
L.A. alt-pop artist Raye Robinson channels Lilly Allen vibes on her debut single, “Daisies.” Overall, the song is minimal, featuring Robinson’s touch-of-soul vocals and gentle piano accents, but has just enough pop bass to make it feel bold.

“LATE NIGHTS” – RHETT REPKO
Infectious guitar riffs and lyrical hooks abound in “Late Nights,” the latest single from Annapolis, Maryland indie rocker, Rhett Repko. “‘Late Nights’ is a temporary pause from my typical sad songs,” explains Repko. “It’s about spending nights with your best friend that you’re either falling in love with or already in love with. It has an innocent quality to it, where you’re just being real and living in the moment with that person.”

“YOU CAN’T LOVE ME LIKE I LOVED YOU” – LAYLA FRANKEL
From her recently released EP Postcard From the Moon, Nashville singer/songwriter Layla Frankel slows the pace with her bluesy single, “You Can’t Love Me Like I Loved You.” The track shows off Frankel’s rich vocals which feature strong Etta James styled, soul-inspired R&B influences.
