After years of trolling, Lil Nas has released his debut album, MONTERO.

Lil Nas X is officially a father. The rapper has released — or, in his words, given birth — to his debut album, MONTERO. The album, the young star’s first, features appearances from Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Elton John, Jack Harlow, and more. The lead single from MONTERO was the title track, which ended up being one of the most controversial songs in recent memory.

To celebrate the album’s release, Lil Nas X has released a number of video assets. First, he put out a humorous promo video where he officially gave birth to his anticipated debut.

Then, Lil Nas X released the video for “That’s What I Want.” The video features the rapper as a football player who gets into a passionate fling with one of his teammates.

Of course, Lil Nas X giving birth to his debut album is a marketing ploy — that started with a funny People Magazine shoot where he had a fake belly— but some real good came from it. He later shared a baby registry that had a number of charities to support.

This album is a long time coming for Lil Nas X. He became an up-and-coming star in 2018 when he released “Old Town Road,” which would go on to be one of the most successful songs of all time. He would prove he wasn’t a one hit wonder with the release of  “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” earlier this year. The rapper would prove he had a tact for getting reactions out of fans and critics. The video for the song featured the rapper giving Satan a seductive lap dance while wearing boxers and thigh-high boots, before snapping the devil’s neck and taking his crown. This video, and the release of satan-inspired shoes with real blood, caused a fake moral outrage that X loved every moment of. Despite a troll that the song would be pulled from the label, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” was a hit, going no. 1 on the Hot 100 Billboard charts.

Will his debut album also go no. 1? Only time will tell.
