If you’ve ever wanted to see one of hip-hop’s most beloved stoners portray The Godfather of Funk, well, it’s happening. In a report from Deadline, Wiz Khalifa is set to play George Clinton in a film titled Spinning Gold. The movie is a biopic about ’70s Casablanca Records chief Neil Bogart. Clinton’s Parliament was signed to Casablanca in 1973 as a result of his long-standing working relationship with Bogart, with the funk group releasing Up for the Down StrokeChocolate City, and Mothership Connection through the label.

The Deadline report goes on to offer a brief summary of the what the biopic will be about, stating that Spinning Gold “charts the rise of his Buddah and Casablanca labels in the 1960s and ’70s with a roster that included Donna Summer, KISS, Parliament, Village People, The Isley Brothers, Gladys Knight and Bill Withers among others.”

The soundtrack will also include new versions of songs from these artists. So aside from Khalifa portraying Clinton, we may also hear him on an updated version of “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker).”

In related news, Clinton will be headlining this year’s Blue Note Jazz Festival alongside Robert Glasper. The funk legend will be playing two shows during the festival, with both of them happening Sunday, June 27. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
