Snoh Aalegra responds to a heated and ongoing Twitter debate that likened her to the incomparable “By Your Side” singer.

Snoh Aalegra would appreciate if you cooled off with the Sade analogs.

On Thursday, a debate was sparked by a lone tweet implying she was the Sade to this generation’s r&b fans. Naturally, this enraged a broad swath of Sade’s adoring following, along with quite a few people from Aalegra’s camp, mostly asking people to acknowledge just how singular the “By Your Side” singer is and why the “we need a hyperbolic point of reference to enjoy something contemporary” discussion is pointless.  And when Aalegra caught wind of it all, she quickly stomped it out. “There’s only one Queen Sade Adu. There will never be another one. This comparison I just saw is so unnecessary. It’s not even a debate,” Aalegra wrote in the first of two tweets addressing the trending topic. “Respect the legend, please,” she added.

To be fair, Aalegra has been on a run over the last few years. The Swedish-born singer broke out with her 2017 debut album, FEELS, and has been steadily growing her base with the release of 2019’s Ugh, those feels again, and her latest project, TEMPORARY HIGHS IN THE VIOLET SKIES, which arrived just last week via Roc Nation, featuring a pair of appearances from Tyler, The Creator and James Fauntleroy. But to quote Aalegra herself in a subsequent tweet, “Sade is every generations’ Sade.” And that should settle it.
