There are many women who are ‘closet eaters’ and I was one of those. Well please don’t judge me for using this term in the context of women. I have experienced well that diet affects our moods especially when we are making an effort to follow the best Indian diet plan for weight loss. I feel it is the easiest for women to be closet eaters as mostly it is they who handle the kitchen and food. Even today whenever I feel low the only thing that comes to mind to make me feel better is chocolate, cookie, or sugar in any other form. I know how it lifts the mood but the later hours of regret are worse.

Sugar runs creating a sad cycle and our food choices are highly capable of bringing us shame and regret. You can read about how sugar is evil here… The only way to get rid of all this is by making the right nutritional choices… Ummm… easier said than done. The fact still remains that nutrition plays an important role in everyone’s physical as well as emotional health. The best Indian diet plan for weight loss has to be a holistic one because we make the biggest mistake of thinking that the brain and body are two different entities so need to be treated separately. That is so so incorrect. We think that eating well-defined nutritious food would help us lose weight without considering its benefits on our mental health.

Are mood and food connected?

The straight answer is YES. This connection between food and feelings is deeply rooted in the connection between our brain and our gastrointestinal tract. Since our GI tract homes, billions of bacteria influencing the message carrying neurotransmitters and chemical substances such as dopamine and serotonin.

When we eat healthy food the good bacteria get promoted while a junk diet is highly capable of causing inflammation. Good bacteria help in the production of neurotransmitters that send positive messages to the brain and finally our emotions are affected positively. On the contrary, an unhealthy diet affects our mood negatively.

Foods in the best Indian diet plan for weight loss and health

No prizes for guessing what all consists of a wholesome plate consisting of food without preservatives, colors, and additives. The best Indian diet is the one that has whole grains, green vegetables, fiber and antioxidants filled foods etc.

The best diet for health and weight loss has to be the one that fights inflammation like different kinds of leafy green vegetables, berries, Indian spices like turmeric, and many other foods containing Omega-3 fatty acids. The last one can be salmon and chia seeds.

Not only this but Vitamin D also pushes the production of serotonin. We get Vitamin D from getting exposed to sunlight but foods like mushrooms and a few supplements can do wonders.

Fermented foods and Magnesium are other essentials to keep muscles, nerves, and gut health great. Just need to add some nuts like almonds and cashews, along with dark leafy greens, and bananas.
Probiotics, present in fermented foods in the form of live bacteria are great for our digestive tract.

My personal experience says eating a plateful of salads consisting of tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion with some Himalayan pink salt and lime juice sprinkled keeps you full for a longer time and away from low mood. Try to swapping unhealthy desserts for healthier ones. A bowl of yogurt with nuts, chia seeds, and chopped fruits is a way better option than icecreams. Believe me, the effect on mood is the same after you eat them. White rice kheer can be swapped with brown rice and dates pudding. There are so many ways to do it.

To switch we don’t have to make immediate changes. Just start by adding more vegetables and fruits to your daily diet. Then cut down on sweets, or maybe vice versa. Whatever you do to make a shift from unhealthy looking for the best Indian diet plan for weight loss and good health, being mindful is the key.

Remember as you stay focused on eating a healthy diet, your moods will start getting better automatically.  There will be fewer mood fluctuations, and your outlook towards life will change.
