[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Wow – this is such a beautiful bottle from Bvlgari that beams with light when the sun catches it. No surprises that there is a Venetian influence and a successful capture of exhilaration and glamour. I can’t stop looking at it.

You could as equally be stepping into the world’s most luxurious candy store as you could be going back in time to a Venetian apothecary. There are five Allegra fragrances – Fiori D’Amore above, flanked by Rock ‘N’ Rome, Riva Solaire, Fantasia Veneta and Dolce Estasi (seen in the coloured tubes). But really, the main story is the introduction of ‘magnifiers’ – contrasting fragrances that exacerbate, amplify and compliment the existing fragrances with a selection of single notes to combine as you wish.

I have Magnifying Rose to accompany Fiori D’Amore but you can discover Magnifying Patchouli, Magnifying Vanilla, Magnifying Musk and Magnifying Bergamot. Using these essences you can boost your existing favourite into something more by changing the mood of the scent – for example, add Bergamot if you want to create a ‘happy’ aspect, Musk if you need it to be more sultry or Patchouli for earthiness. So, I have ‘magnified Fiori D’Amore, which is an ode to red roses. It’s velvety, voluptuous and has a freshly picked note that’s almost dewy. There’s a little bit of raspberry in it that gives a small amount of fruit notes, and if lush and rich are your florals, this is for you. The Magnifier is rose-buddish in nature so creates a more playful rose when combined with Fiori D’Amore – it’s a whole other layer of loveliness that does indeed magnify rather than change.

The possibilities are many – I’d love to know what a spritz of citrus in the form of Magnifying Bergamot would bring to the party – so summery and fresh on top of a heady, fulsome rose. You know, bizarrely, these are rather emotional fragrances – or maybe it’s not bizarre at all. It’s like being pulled through the Looking Glass, olfactorily, without knowing quite where you might land but assured it won’t be like anywhere else. If the world is your oyster you could have the entire set – the five main fragrances and the five magnifiers and you’d be in a whole universe of fragrance possibilities. Of course, these are luxury fragrances with accompanying prices – £200 for the EDPs and £160 for the Magnifiers. They’re made with passion, I think, with exclusive accords by Jacques Cavallier that can’t be found anywhere other than in the Allegra fragrances. I can’t begin to imagine how the process of amplifying and magnifying takes place with such bold and encompassing notes that need the lightest of applications – I’m imagining a bit of a trip to be honest!
