On Thursday, the official Verzuz social media accounts shared that The Lox and Dipset will square off in the next official battle.
Surprise, surprise! Verzuz has unveiled it’s newest face-off: The Lox vs. Dipset.
On Thursday, the official Verzuz social media accounts shared that the battle will take place live from Madison Square Garden on August 3. Here’s another detail that’s worth paying attention to: tickets will be available to those who are superfans of either group.
The success of Verzuz stemming from a casual battle featuring Swizz Beatz and Timbaland has led to monumental moments honoring hip-hop’s biggest names. In fact, Jadakiss appeared at a battle last year and shelled out some of his hits alongside Fabolous. For this forthcoming event, he’ll appear with fellow groupmates Styles P and Sheek Louch. We know you’re not a novice so Jim Jones, Cam’ron and Freekey Zekey AKA Dipset will also be present.
Last year, during a HIPHOPDX interview, The Lox expressed their thoughts on whether they’re one of the greatest groups ever. Styles P shared the following:
“Me personally, we the best that ever fucking did it, for what a group should be. From what we do, how we do it and what we did, to what we live and what we stand for, for the people — we the best that ever fucking did it. I don’t see who you could compare to us.”
“We got hits,” Sheek Louch shared. “Street records and hits. If we was to get into that battle — it ain’t too many, bro.”
As for if they felt a Wu Tang Clan battle would’ve been fair, Sheek said: “We got them niggas done started something records and we got them big radio hits, too. So, it’s like if you come to fucking battle us, you can’t just play them tri-state shits. We got a catalog.”
With that being said, we have our thoughts on whether or not both groups will play radio hits or loosies. Only time will tell. If anything, we’re looking forward to hearing a healthy mixture of staples but also lesser-known quiet killers.
The Lox vs. Dipset Verzuz battle is scheduled for August 3 at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET. You can watch the event on Instagram and Triller.
