Delivering the companion to Qrion-fueled collaboration “Rainy April,” Spencer Brown offers up a new double A-side EP, Blue Magic / Rainy April on Anjunadeep. With the long-awaited release of “Rainy April” finally materializing in August, the San Francisco-based producer now rounds off his twofer with “Blue Magic” featuring Danny Shamoun.
Blue Magic / Rainy April showcases a creative level of production familiar to the lauded Anjuna artist, spanning meticulously orchestrated arrangements of chunky drum grooves and transporting melodies—a kaleidoscope of rhythms and instruments designed to turn listener’s towards their inner mantras. Speaking on how the track “Blue Magic” transpired, Brown shared,
“The track was inspired after a private party weekend at a stunning remote location in California put on by @christianpresents. ‘Party’ is an understatement—it was a spiritual retreat with no egos and incredible music. It was here I met @dannyshamoun who played the djembe and other instruments all weekend; I was blown away by his talent.
I went home and wrote the groove, chords, and hook of ‘Blue Magic’ the day after the weekend. I sampled Danny’s mouth harp, but we decided to record djembe and kawala too. Finishing the track took the most work and time I’ve ever spent on a record. We recorded hundreds of takes of each instrument and hand selected the perfect ones. The track finally out today. I hope you can feel the spiritual energy we have channeled. 💙”
